RRZ’S PLAYTIME – THE HEARTIST
應戲淘冊 – 心術師
RRZ’s playtime is a series of work that features Rou Rou Zi in play. Through play, RRZ can follow its heartbeat and discover its playful mind. Play on purpose! Play hard! Play wise! Play well!
About the Name of the Album “應嬉淘冊”
The Chinese character “應” means “should/must” (應當) or “ought to” (該); The second character of the title “嬉” has a meaning of “play without restrains” (無拘束地遊戲) and “make fun of somebody or something” (開玩笑); And the third one “淘” has several meanings, general ones including “being naughty or mischievous” (淘氣); “seek or search for” (尋覓,如「淘古井」) ; “cleansing or wash” (洗淨,如「浪淘盡」)
The pronunciation of “應戲淘冊” is very much similar with “Baby Play Picture” ( 嬰戲圖冊), a genre of ancient Chinese portrait painting showcasing some babies at play, purposefully depicting funny faces and gestures of babies in order to present a poetic enjoyment of being childlike (童趣).
Therefore the name of the album means: “ We ought to play and make fun without restrains!” that inherits the spirit of the genre. At the same time, the album is translated as “ RRZ’s Playtime”, capturing Rou Rou Zi’s play scenarios.
As we grow older, we often forget how to play hard and be honest to our hearts. Despite all the disappointment of the world, RRZ’s playtime reminds us of freeing ourselves from boxes and listening to our hearts, so to play a good game, at the right time. We come into being because of play, and “play” comes into a being because of you and me.
