Biography 個人簡介
Wong is an artist from Hong Kong, specialising in Chinese Gongbi Painting. She received her BA (2010) and MFA (2013) from the Department of Fine Arts, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She lives and works in Hong Kong, and takes part in International exhibitions both in Hong Kong and overseas, her works are collected by private collectors.
Wong believes that “Art” is a kind of beauty beyond boundaries and definitions, through the stories and imaginations in Art, the soul of human can be nourished and educated. With an attitude of questioning and observing, she formed a series of narratives by integrating innovative ideas into traditional methods and aesthetic criteria of Chinese Painting.
In her exploration on traditional Chinese Gong-bi (工筆畫) Painting and Literati Painting, she juxtaposed the fine lines with primitive and kinetic lines, as well as xie-yi style brushstrokes with the stilled colour fields. The paradoxical juxtaposition created a dialogue full of tension on the face of the painting which revealed her artistic sense to the contemporary significance of Chinese shui-mo (水墨).
Her adventure of shui-mo provides a lively articulation for the metaphorical scenarios, and it portrayed the artist’s deliberately serious yet diligently playful attitude towards life.
